LOS ANGELES, CA, July 1, 2014 - Noting the horrifying statistics of millions of dogs who are subjected daily to he horrors of abuse, exploitation and homelessness, the nonprofit organization One Spirit, One World (www.onespiritoneworld.org) launched a life-saving campaign ‘Fur-ever Friends: until no dog is left behind’ to help end dog homelessness and abuse.
The campaign is led by an award-winning rescued dog named Cutie, The Lion Dog (www.cutietheliondog.com) who is the official mascot and spokesdog for the campaign along with his partner Geela Parish (www.geela.com).
“This is a silent crisis and there is no excuse for violence,” said Geela who is an award-winning artist/activist and founder of the nonprofit organization. “According to estimates by The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals approximately 7 million animals enter shelters nationwide every year. About 5 out of 10 dogs in shelters are killed just because there is no one to adopt them and due to a lack of space or resources to care for them. It’s also estimated that there are about 70 million stray dogs in the US. Many of these dogs have been subjected to unconscionable horrors of daily gruesome violence and torture from beating and burning to mutilating, choking and shooting, abuse including sexual abuse, neglect, exploitation (from dog fighting to harmful hoarding; keeping too many dogs without the ability to properly care for them), starvation, deprivation of medical care and shelter, abandonment, experimentation and killings for the thrill of killing or for meat consumption by humans and animals alike. Sadly, this silent crisis doesn’t make media headlines.”
“While the support for the cause is growing tremendously everyday thanks to the generous spirit of a small army of talented and dedicated volunteers and sponsors, we hope that Cutie’s star power will continue to attract more attention to the cause in an entertaining yet informative way to help fulfill the mission of the campaign,” said Geela.
Celebrating Independence Day is a good opportunity to not only appreciate the freedoms and opportunities most nations don’t have, but also to remember the plight of millions of man’s best friend who are still deprived of the freedom from the horrors of senseless violence, exploitation and homelessness. “But you have the power to change all that today,” said Geela who has devoted her life to helping save as many animals as possible. “Together we can save them all!”
