Consider these heartbreaking statistics. According to estimates by The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals approximately 7 million animals enter shelters nationwide every year. About 5 out of 10 dogs in shelters are killed just because there is no one to adopt them and due to a lack of space or resources to care for them. It’s also estimated that there are about 70 million stray dogs in the US. Many of these dogs have been subjected to unconscionable horrors of daily gruesome violence and torture from beating and burning to mutilating, choking and shooting, abuse including sexual abuse, neglect, exploitation (from dog fighting to harmful hoarding; keeping too many dogs without the ability to properly care for them), starvation, deprivation of medical care and shelter, abandonment, experimentation and killings for the thrill of killing or for meat consumption by humans and animals alike.
